The earth day movement

Before the 1970's, proper waste disposal and treatment together with energy crisis was major global problem. This then led to the foundation of the earth day network. The earth day, which was first celebrated in 1970 spelt out the need to protect the environment. The two main goals of this movement is to device means to protect the environment and also to ensure stable energy supply. Currently, the earth day network has 193 countries which are working together to ensure that these goals are met.

What caused these double trouble?
The cause of both environmental issues and energy shortfalls can  be assuaged to the constant surge in population. The world's population have increased significantly over the years and this can be due to a number of factors including  the improved healthcare delivery which has reduced maternal mortality and morbidity to the barest minimum. In 1970 world population was estimated at 3.7 billion.  

 In 1980 world population was estimated at 4.4 billion.  

 In 1990 world population was estimated at 5.2 billion.   

In 2000 world population was estimated at 6.0 billion.

 In 2010 world population was estimated at 6.8 billion.  

With these constant explosions,

 In 2020 world population is estimated to be 7.6 billion.   

In 2050 world population is estimated to be 10 billion.

Inferring from these statistics, the world's resources, particularly the land and energy supply cannot cater for these explosion in population. This remains the most important reason why 4NEW is here to help solve these problems and in effect help savethe world. The two problems that 4NEW intends to solve are the waste surplus and energy shortfall.

Waste surplus 

Waste in the environment is from human activities and that of industrial waste. The Humans produce a lot of waste which demands energy for processing. The question 4NEW ask is that why should we waste energy to process waste and not get more energy from the waste we processed?

 Globally, waste generation totals approximately 1.3 billion metric tons of waste each year and that is expected to rise to 2.2 billion metric tons by 2025 according to World Bank statistics. Almost all of it ends up in landfills. The more urbanized and industrialized a nation is the more waste it produces. Why should our precious environment be engulfed with the waste we dispose when 4NEW has deviced the best means for greater benefit?

In Africa and Asia, Urbanization and industrialization is now gaining roots and this will lead to a significant increase in the waste generated. Developing nations like Ghana tend ro spend more on collection of waste than the disposal of it. Most times, these waste are sent to distant landfills which later leads to many health problems. I believe that 4NEW is here for the world and more especially Africa where proper treatment of waste is a major problem. It is quite amazing  to hear that cholera, which is as a result of contamination of our water bodies and food, is still killing people in Africa. These improper disposal of waste also culminates in the breeding of mosquitoes which causes the leading killer disease in Ghana which is Malaria.  With 4NEW set to spread their tentacles to all continents, it will be a blessing to have 4NEW in Africa. 4NEW will help collect all our refuse nicely and convert them to electricity.

Energy Shortfall

With the rise in urbanization and industrialization, the energy gap has been widened. There has been a high demand for electric power than fossil fuels for the operation of cars and other machines. This has placed high pressure on electricity. Although other methods like use of windmills and hydroelectric power produces electricity, these methods have some few more evolutions to undergo before working. This is one reason why 4NEW is here to collect all waste and  convert these waste into electricity to supplement other energy supply in order to meet the increasing demands for electricity.

In conclusion, the environment we live in is very necessary and to help protect this precious land, 4NEW has brought up the initiative where they will collect waste and later convert the waste to energy so as to reduce the waste levies and also to increase energy supply.
